Spring’s most compelling beauty trends

We take a look at some of the season’s best beauty trends – and how to wear them

When it comes to beauty, it's easy to get stuck in the same routine. Here, we take a look at three trends to help refresh your makeup bag...

What? Spiky eyelashes was once the stand-out beauty staple of the Sixties, and they’re back. For spring 2019, clumpy lashes walked down the runway at Prada and the takeaway was: the more spidery, the better.

How? Achieve the look with the help of individual, buildable false eyelashes, £3.99, from H&M. Next, load up with layers of Bourjois Eye Catching Extreme Volume Mascara, £8.99, from Boots. Focus on applying to individual lashes to get that spiky look.

What? Where makeup is concerned, joyous tones of bright pink are the go-to this spring. At Fashion Week this trend leaned towards the out-there, like hot pink mascaraed eyelashes. But you can also play with this trend via swipes of vivid lipstick and mood-brightening shades of blusher.

How? Wilko's bright pink Essence Matt Touch Blush, £1, makes a perfect makeup bag staple for achieving rosy cheeks. For your lips, we love The Body Shop’s multi-purpose Lip & Cheek Stain in Pink Hibiscus, £8 – dab it onto your lips and press them for a natural-looking blast of colour.

What? We think it’s a waste to only ever open glitter pots during festival season. And according to the looks of models at at Missoni and Simone Roche, this spring is the time to play around with glitter.

How? One of the coolest, and perhaps most surprising beauty looks on the runway was glitter-doused hair. To be honest, it took us back to school discos – in a good way. Feeling nostalgic? Why not spritz subtle sections of glitter along your hairline on a night out with Iridescent Glitter Hair Spray, £4, from Claire’s? Trust us on this one... For sparkling eyes, opt for Pixi's Glitter-y Eye Quad, £14. It's available in four different colourways, from Marks and Spencer.
