Have you spotted the beautiful mural that's appeared at our Molesworth Street entrance? Read on to find out more!
Six students of the Lewisham School of Muralism and their tutor, Patricio Forrester, have engaged with local residents and The Migration Museum to develop a wonderful artwork for the wall next to the Molesworth St. entrance of Lewisham Shopping Centre.
Because The Lewisham School of Muralism is an educational provider, under the current Government guidelines, students were allowed to gather outside to execute their work in groups of six.
The assembled team shared their experience of migration in Lewisham and during the process built a variety of imagery, which they eventually narrowed down to one idea that the students and tutor developed together.
One of the challenges the team faced was to address what can be a sensitive issue in a positive way, celebrating the contribution migration makes to Lewisham. The mural brings colour and warmth to this urban landscape, with an image that is simple and effective in welcoming everyone, and we think they've done a fantastic job!
