January is Tamil Heritage Month, providing a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and share Tamil heritage with the wider communities in Lewisham. Lewisham is renowned for its vibrant cultural diversity. In 2023, it became the first Borough of Sanctuary in the UK, reinforcing its tradition of being a welcoming place for people from all backgrounds.

Thai Pongal, also celebrated in January, is a multi-day harvest festival observed by the Tamil community honouring the sun, nature and farm animals for their contributions to a bountiful harvest. 

To celebrate Tamil Heritage Month, we will be hosting a Thai Pongal dance and music celebration on Saturday 25th January. Join us from 1pm and listen to music by Tamil Academy of Language and Arts and watch dance performances by Welcome Dance from 2.30pm
